As a recent article in an infamous glossy so eloquently put it, “Some things you just can’t explain!” Such is the case of the mandal! Givenchy’s doing it, MK’s been doing it for years and evidentially the rest of the fash pack were pretty quick to jump on board, all feigning nonchalant and confusion while revelling in the extreme turn to comfort.  

It seems no one can quite put their finger on what triggered the sudden change in perception or why Birkenstock’s are now on everyone’s hit list, receiving an instant cool factor over-night, but it also appears, no one’s asking too many questions! There’s no doubt that they’ll one day again be those horridly embarrassing shoes you bought without knowing why, but for now, they’re just cool!

Givenchy took it one step further this season by showcasing an exceptional collection, complete with a haute couture canine, and a colour co-ordinated one at that! Floor length sheaths of brilliance and texture contradiction at its finest, Givenchy created the ultimate secret garden.

Vogue at the Super Bowl: Ladies with an Attitude Fellas that were in the Mood…

One of my first memories of the super human that is Madonna is from when I was all of about five! Trust me, I've seriously loved her from the get go. I was playing dress-ups with my cousin and I vividly remember stamping my foot and chucking a tantrum, with mum's red Estée Lauder Lipstick in hand, at the mere suggestion that for once I should be Kylie and she should be Madonna! I was seriously mortified and to tell you the truth if the same situation arose today, some 17 years later, I can't promise I wouldn't react in exactly the same manner. To me, Madonna is a true icon of all that is controversially fantastic, ambitiously creative and unapologetically determine. Her talent and constant innovation have ensured she remain a continuous source of boundary pushing inspiration decade after decade. 

With this in mind, you can imagine my excitement surrounding the half time entertainment of the 2012 Super Bowl on Monday. Dressed in Givenchy couture and delivering an awe inspiring, high energy performance, which combined vintage classics, her latest release and my all time personal favourite, 'VOGUE,' Madonna made damn sure everyone knew she still had it! 

Phillip Treacy, the designer behind her gold metal hat for Givenchy, summed it up beautifully, "People say everything has a limit, but limits do not exist with Madonna."

The creative the innovating and the safe…Paris is pulling out all the stops.

Vivienne Westwood’s theatrical mixed bag.

Clown-like make-up, stripper-like platforms, odd socks and a wedding dress. Vivienne Westwood’s collection, whose inspiration came from saving the planet to historical corsets, was a little all over the place in the most fabulous way possible. The romantic aesthetic came together through the eclectic mix of exquisite lace and ordinary fish-net knits, proving there is genius in madness.

John Galliano’s Mary Pickford to Mary Poppins.

Feminine millinery, lace socks paired back with heels, voluminous below the knee skirts and floral working with checks. Bill Gaytten’s collection for Galliano made a beautiful transition from prim and lady-like to sexy seduction. Beautiful detail and the feminine aesthetic confirmed that although Gaytten has clearly made his mark on the label, the essence of Galliano will remain dominantly present, for now.

Riccardo Tisci noted mermaids and surfers amongst his influences when creating this collection of exquisite suits and tailoring. The skin tight pants, luxurious fabrics of glistening sheen and shine and strong jackets that maintained their fluidity and movement made the collection the perfect contrast to Givenchy’s predictable panthers.

After the less than positive response from Dior’s Haute Couture collection, the fashion house went back to their origins, producing a collection reminiscent of the prettiness and class surrounding the Dior archives. The collection featured immaculate adaptations of the original iconic looks that helped to cement the Dior legacy, a safe move, but a necessary one.
