BIRKS.

As a recent article in an infamous glossy so eloquently put it, “Some things you just can’t explain!” Such is the case of the mandal! Givenchy’s doing it, MK’s been doing it for years and evidentially the rest of the fash pack were pretty quick to jump on board, all feigning nonchalant and confusion while revelling in the extreme turn to comfort.

It seems no one can quite put their finger on what triggered the sudden change in perception or why Birkenstock’s are now on everyone’s hit list, receiving an instant cool factor over-night, but it also appears, no one’s asking too many questions! There’s no doubt that they’ll one day again be those horridly embarrassing shoes you bought without knowing why, but for now, they’re just cool!

Overalls: Sportsgirl, Jeans and Bag: Topshop, White crop shirt: General Pants, Shoes: Birkenstocks.

- M I R A N D A -

Miranda isn’t usually on my radar. Not that I don’t think she an absolute goddess of a human being, I’m just not usually inspired creatively by most of her editorial work. I have a hard time getting past those dimples and the abundance of fitspo images burnt into my memory that force me out of bed in morning, most of which contain some sort of a sequin or a ridiculously over the top bra. Her recent shoot for Korean Vogue by Eric Guillemain however, completely contradicts all of my pre determined assumptions. She’s stepped down from the stilts of the commercial world and roughened it up a ‘lil. It’s got a street style, thrown-together-look with a sport-luxe feel and strong connotations to the groundbreaking shoot she did for Russh in 2012. It feels new and fresh and the almost retro, gym class styling only adds to its appeal.

The Everyday Photographer...

By now I’m sure you would have heard that the third release of Rag + Bone’s DIY campaign features the lovely Miranda ‘Mrs Bloom,’ Kerr. It appears however that it’s not only the creative mega minds behind the Rag + Bone epicentre that are jumping on board this whole concept of, ‘do it yourself.’
As technology speeds forward at a ridiculously rapid pace, we are presented with the likes of twitter, blogs, facebook, and an excess of other creative outlets, however, no longer are we simply restricted to documenting our lives through words, text and check-in points. Photography is a powerful tool, and with limitless filters, frames and effects at our fingertips, we can now accompany our words with beautiful, inspirational imagery.
The 21st century is the generation of The Everyday Photographer, and if any industry is embracing the movement with open arms it’s fashion! We now know how to work the light, deepen the contrast, add texture and focus out the back ground, we can switch film, add frames and saturate the colour and you bet we’re going to utilize our new set of skills while we capture the most beautiful, creative and exciting shows and events around the world. Fashion and photography have always been two peas in a fabulous pod and their collaboration combined with creative experimentation is resulting in the evolution of a whole new concept that’s giving DYI a fresh new outlook.
