Stripped down to the bare essentials, the program for Marc
Jacob’s latest collection was a direct reflection of the minimalism, but ever
so powerful show that was to come. An artistic display at the completely
opposite end of the spectrum from his last collection, Jacob’s drew inspiration
form the pinnacle of New York magic. Think icy blonde hair, deep dark eyes and
iconic black stockings, a tribute to the legendary Factory and it’s most
infamous ‘it’ girl, Edie Sedgwick! Lead by a black and white clad Ruby Jean,
the army of models tramped down the runway proving not only the powerful of the
understated, but also the pure ingenious of Marc Jacobs. Simplicity with the
backbone of slightly tragic glamour, this collection was proof that fashion’s
power lies in it’s ability to tell a story, and this season, Marc Jacob’s proved
the fabulously eccentric memory of Andy Warhol’s super star lives on!

Model of the Moment
Ruby Jean Wilson is a stand out Australian model making stride after
stride in the high fashion world. To be noticed in the exclusive world of
fashion is a feat in itself, but to be recognized on an international level,
walking in and opening high profile shows like YSL and Louis Vuitton, is an
achievement that’s part of a whole different ball game. Ruby Jean’s alabaster
skin, thick chopping mane and deep brown eyes are insuring that she’s being
noticed for all the right reasons by the game changers of the industry… Her
kick-ass personal style isn’t hurting either!
Describe
yourself… Happy,
loving, humble, ambitious, different. Dreams and ambitions? Nothing specific right now. I want
to live comfortably and happily somewhere beautiful. If I could change the
world… I’d work for
communities in poverty-stricken and war-torn countries teaching children. The
last dream I had… I
dreamt I had glitter all over me… under my nails, in my hair, in my eyelashes
and I couldn’t get it out. Probably because I had glitter all over my face
yesterday. Recurring dream or nightmare? I often dream about the places I used to live
and people I used to know. What takes you to cloud 9? A new favorite song, really good
coffee, absolute silence, fresh berries, shopping sprees, my little sister
Flora’s smile.

Valley of the Dolls…
Shot in the Wolgan Valley, NSW, amidst the magical terrain and the very homestead that Charles Darwin stayed in, in 1836, a trio of models and technicoloured wigs channelled their inner, ‘Valley of the Dolls,’ last year, for the 2010 September Issue of Harper’s Bazaar, Singapore. Now I know it is twelve months later, but this is one of my favourite shoots and features the one and only Ruby Jean Wilson, along side the equally amazing Dempsey Stewart and Natalie Keyser. Shot by Simon Upton and styled by Kenneth Goh, the serene landscape, combined with the enchanting light, create the perfect contrast against the vivid colours and eclectic mix of the fashion.
