I want to be a part of the cool club!

The Marc by Marc Jacobs show was a rebellious revolution that propelled us all back to school yard, endlessly wishing to be one of the popular girls- except this time, the girls in question swapped their strawberry smackers for a pair of martial arts combat boots and bad ass braids.
A gang of skater girls stormed the runway projecting a defiant yet subtly romantic attitude, supported by underlying bandana motifs, over the top bows executed in traditional tartan and an obsessive use of black, white and red.
There were no boys in sight; only a flawless ninja army, comprised of strong, level-footed girls, only further hammering home the announcement that MBJB has a new edge!

Happy Days Are Here Again

An ethereal cloudland of grey-scaled violet, hand painted organza, hypnotic serenity and icy, iridescent reflections, - a calming contradiction to his last appearance on a Manhattan runway, Marc Jacobs made a point of reasserting his place at New York Fashion Week, proving the power of pulling everything back, letting a wallflower-like softness drill itself into the subconscious of the audience.

As the designs moved through a progressive development of neutral shades supported by candy washed wigs and working up to the addition of constructed textures, deep v-neck knits and the glamorised incorporation of sequins, the soundtrack remained repetitiously methodical, pulling the audience deeper and deeper into a grey wash hypnosis.
A soft and almost tragically beautiful collection, Marc Jacobs convinced all that the Happy Days are truly here again!

Fuck with the System!

In an industry where the season’s operate like clock work, collections are meticulously calculated and there’s a style and a trend for every look, it’s subtly refreshing when an individual mind makes a conscious decision to fuck with the system.
The ability to showcase ones creative work is one of the most liberating yet necessary occurrences of the entire fashion week process, the point of the exercise being to allow others to experience and be exposed to your creations, after all, ‘do they really exist if not in comparison to others?’ Why then would the great Marc Jacobs purposely choose to send his models down the runway, illuminated only by the dull golden glow of an elaborate sun in the background? BECAUSE HE CAN!
My love for Marc Jacobs is a developed and weathered one, I have a strong connection to his creativity, inspirations and the aesthetical representations of his brand. I appreciate his brilliant creative mind from a far, forming seemingly bias positive opinions and loving literally everything his does, (well nearly, my heart broke at the revelation of the use fox fur in his latest collection, that I certainly don’t love nor admire!) That aside, Marc Jacob’s latest collection falls nothing short of what we’ve come to expect from him! A magnificent display of metallics, sequins, shag wigs and ultra short shorts, this collection screamed of a diluted, against the grain attitude, until of course the lights switched on and the models returned to showcase the true craftsmanship and detail of the fierce, perfectly over the top collection...

STRIPPED DOWN.

Stripped down to the bare essentials, the program for Marc Jacob’s latest collection was a direct reflection of the minimalism, but ever so powerful show that was to come. An artistic display at the completely opposite end of the spectrum from his last collection, Jacob’s drew inspiration form the pinnacle of New York magic. Think icy blonde hair, deep dark eyes and iconic black stockings, a tribute to the legendary Factory and it’s most infamous ‘it’ girl, Edie Sedgwick! Lead by a black and white clad Ruby Jean, the army of models tramped down the runway proving not only the powerful of the understated, but also the pure ingenious of Marc Jacobs. Simplicity with the backbone of slightly tragic glamour, this collection was proof that fashion’s power lies in it’s ability to tell a story, and this season, Marc Jacob’s proved the fabulously eccentric memory of Andy Warhol’s super star lives on!

SNAP. it's Spring/Summer

Casual, understated and nonchalant chic, with subtle undertones of killer glam rock! Spring Summer 2013, is kicking some serious arse and we’ve not even at my favourite city yet! Before we dive feet first into the second half, here’s my little recap of what went down in NYC and London.

Alexander WANG.
Black lights, an iridescent glow and Wang’s interpretation of, “Pulling the garments apart.” It was structure in its newest, most intricate form, equal parts experimental and functionality all depicted through the light and shade of black and white.

Helmut LANG.
Adapting their statement staple of ultra cool, asymmetrical draping in neutral specific tones, Helmut Lang evolved the stereotype through the exploration of soft peaches and pastel blues. It was laid back and understated in a newer, looser form.

ACNE.
Romantically undone with a sense of rustic dishevelment, the Acne collection was all dusty tones, parachute skirts and printed muscle tees…and wasn’t it fantastic! Maintaining the tough edge of the Acne girl, the collection enabled her to adapt to a new form of brilliance. This is how I would love to dress ALL THE TIME! And seriously, what’s cooler than a printed MUSIC tee!

MULBERRY.
Sickly sweet in the most Mulberry of ways, the Spring Summer collection came complete with muted golds, soft sweet metallics and perfect preened poodles.

TOMORROW -> MARC JACOBS: my most favourite collection EVER, (big call I know! You’ll see why)
