The Perfect Pair…

Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, more famously know as Mert and Marcus, are pioneers of contemporary fashion photography, paving the way in unconventional, disconnected images of beauty. Their work is heavily influenced by the photography of Guy Bourdin and their style has helped shaped the use of digital manipulation.

Gracing the holy grail of high fashion magazines such as Vogue USA, Vouge Italia and W Magazine, and capturing images for fashion houses, Gucci, Yves St Laurent and Givenchy, the pair have helped to define the look of the past decade as they became the most respected and acclaimed photographers working today. Strongly known for their defined, sophisticated profiles, Mert and Marcus met for the first time in 1994 before forming their iconic team. They showed their first images to, ‘Dazed and Confused,’ and immediately made the cover.
“A lot of great pictures happen spontaneously, no matter how much you plan ahead, In fact our favourite pictures are those done with almost no preparation at all…”
- Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, Face of Fashion 2007
Contributing, influencing and changing the world of fashion photography, Mert and Marcus continue to redefine tradition, challenge the rules and create images of beauty and grace that fit perfectly into the epicentre of the fashion world.
